A whole new world: As Far As New Year Resolutions Go

…maybe it’s coming a little late, but happy new year all the same!

I figured I would wait for everyone to finally get over the daily champagnes and parties. It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of the holidays and the New Year. But eventually, the celebrations have come to an end and we settled back into our regular routines, hopefully with some “start the year fresh” type of hype.

…welcome to a new dispensation

I hope that the feeling of being in a “new world” continues to spark your curiosity and creativity. I hope that you are able to take this newfound perspective and use it to focus on your goals, both big and small. I hope that you can use the energy of this new world to push yourself toward success, and never settle for anything less than your best. Most of all, I hope that you never stop dreaming, never stop believing in yourself, and never stop striving for bigger and better things. Life is full of new experiences and opportunities, so don’t be afraid to take a chance and venture into the unknown. It’s all part of the adventure!

Regardless of how your 2022 went – whether it was lovely, awful, or a mixture of both — you should take time to celebrate the wins. Big? You made it, no matter how it turned out! Obviously, it is a huge deal to see the new year. What we’re not gonna do is pretend it’s just another day. I hope you started the year on a memorable note like enjoying a serene/wild night with your partner or loved one(s), going to a New Year’s party, or even traveling.

So, how should we do 2023? Personally, in setting my intentions for the new year, I think of what I want to accomplish, hope to master, or overcome, as well as what will fulfill me. This, for me, means that I’ll be creating a more natural and soulful me, not necessarily making a resolution but a list of areas of my life I want to work on monthly, and break it down into the exact steps I need to take in order to achieve it.
Next, consider what speed bumps you might encounter. For instance, if you want to get more rest time at night, what stops you from sleeping early, and what can make it easier for you? Once you’ve done this, you just have to keep track of your progress, be organized, and celebrate your streaks.
The focus for me in January is my health, particularly my fitness. Besides renewing my health insurance, booking dental and eye appointments, and enrolling in tennis, I’m also making sure I’m consistent with my pilates, yoga, and meditation, and drinking at least 2L of water daily.
Here are some ideas to guide you:

  1. January: HEALTH – FITNESS
  2. February: CAREER
  3. March: FINANCE & SELF-CARE
  4. April: HEALTH – FOOD
  5. May: HOME
  6. June: MENTAL HEALTH
  7. July: CREATIVITY/ SPONTANEITY
  8. August: BUILD BETTER RELATIONSHIPS
  9. September: CLEANSING
  10. October: SPIRITUALITY
  11. November: GRATITUDE
  12. December: ALL

I know for most people, the idea of making a new year resolution can be very daunting. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut and feel like life is just passing us by. But the truth is, the smallest of changes can make a big difference in our lives. All it takes is a few small tweaks to our daily routines to create powerful changes that feel natural and even enjoyable. For instance, taking a few minutes each day to meditate or practice mindfulness can help us to stay focused and feel centered. Similarly, if you want to be healthier, try making small changes like adding more vegetables to your meals or taking a short walk after dinner. Over time, these small wins will add up and can lead to big changes in your life that feel natural. Finally, striving to be a better person overall is a goal that everyone can strive for. This could involve being kinder to yourself and others, being more patient and understanding, or simply being more mindful of the world around you.

No matter what changes you want to make in 2023, small steps are the best way to get there. Focus on taking things one day at a time, and soon you’ll be closer to achieving your goals.

I hope you have that ‘new year feel’ and I’ll do my best to be posting more often than the usual once every fortnight. So, keep in touch via social media, subscribe to the mailing list, or follow on all socials.
